The struggling retailer on Wednesday announced the exit of Chief Executive following a dismal quarter. Mr. Tritton, who was hired to fix the problem, overcorrected on that issue: In its latest holiday quarter, it ended up not having enough of the products that customers wanted, turning them away. The retailer hasn’t been able to lure customers back since then and logged a 23% drop in comparable-store sales in its quarter ended May 28, while inventory swelled 19.5% from the year-ago period.
